The Suwanting Route is well known as the most demanding trail to the summit of Mount Merbabu. Although the ascent is steep from the very beginning, it rewards hikers with peaceful forests, beautiful ridgelines with its savanna, and spectacular panoramic views that make the effort worthwhile.
The trek begins with the trail gradually climbs through passing lush tropical forest, pine trees, and two hiking posts before reaching the campsite at post 3. There you can enjoy a beautiful sunset overlooking Merapi Volcano, stay overnight in the tent and rest for the following day. From post 3 to the summit, you will hike through the scenic open savanna area, one of the mountain’s most iconic landscapes. Reaching the summit that stands at 3,142m in the sunrise offers a breathtaking view of Merapi Volcano, Mount Sumbing, Mount Sindoro, Mount Lawu and the smaller mountains surrounding.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable adventure, you will be accompanied by an experienced trekking guide throughout the hike. We provide transportation, camping equipment, and all essential trekking logistics, allowing you to focus on enjoying the journey. Simply bring your personal hiking gear, comfortable clothing, and a good level of physical fitness.
ITINERARY MERBABU HIKING VIA SUWANTING ROUTE:
DAY 1: YOGYAKARTA AREA – MOUNT MERBABU CAMPING
08:00 AM – 09:30 PM Pickup in Yogyakarta / Borobudur Area and head to Mount Merbabu
09:30 PM – 10:30 PM Arrive at Mt Merbabu Basecamp, Meet the Guide, Briefing & Preparation
10:30 PM – 04:30 PM Experience to hike Merbabu via Suwanting to reach the campsite at post 3
04:30 PM – 06:00 PM Arrive at the campsite, take time to relax and enjoy the sunset moment
06:00 PM – 08:00 PM Having dinner, enjoy the night view followed with stay overnight in the tent
DAY 2: MOUNT MERBABU SUMMIT – YOGYAKARTA AREA
02:00 AM – 02:30 AM Wake up early for a hot drinks before summit attack
02:30 AM – 05:00 AM Experience an early morning trekking to reach Mt Merbabu summit on 3,142m
05:00 AM – 06:30 AM Enjoy the sunrise, view overlooking surrounding mountains & explore the summit
06:30 AM – 09:00 AM Leaving the summit and return to the campsite for having breakfast
09:00 AM – 01:00 PM Descend to Merbabu hiking basecamp at Suwanting Village with the same route
01:00 PM – 03:00 PM After relax, Transfer back to the Hotel in Yogyakarta / Borobudur Area. Tour End!
